Chicago, IL: Bollywood actress and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty-Kundra attended women empowerment gala organized by LIVE2U, Atlantic Travels and Starz on March 3, 2017. The event took place at The Meadows Club, 2950 W. Golf Rd Rolling Meadows, Rolling Meadows, IL. It was a fun filled evening to celebrate “Womanhood” and honored Chicago women achievers for their success and service. LIVE 2 U is an entertainment powerhouse specializing and conceptualizing live shows, concerts & plays in US & CANADA featuring the most sought after celebrities in the Indian and Pakistani entertainment circuit.

“International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 worldwide, commemorating the political, social and economic achievements of women. There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women. My wife Sonia Karla inspire me to celebrate International Women’s Day with our community” said by Surinder (Karl) Kalra from LIVE 2 U.

Speaking on the occasion, Bollywood actress and fitness enthusiast Shilpa Shetty said, “If empowered, the hand that rocks the cradle can surely rule the world; complementing, contributing, creating a better tomorrow for everyone.” A fervent defender of gender equality and women’s empowerment, Shilpa has always been highlighting the pivotal role of women in the society as source of love, care and affection. “I’m not a feminist but a responsible woman. I salute all the women who are homemakers and I think that’s the most difficult job. There is no day off. Women are not only going out and earning bread and butter but also looking after the family,” she said. Shilpa may be a celebrity to the outside world, but at heart, she says, she’s still the girl who comes from a middle-class background and has seen her father helping her mother in household work.

Nausheen Ali did excellent job for Emcee of this event. The event honored female achievers of Chicagoland from all walks of life. Some women speakers talked about true success stories pertaining to issues related to women emancipation and gender equality. Ekjut Theater presented two acts on women’s empowerment. It brought in true stories of the struggles of a women and emerging winner in all its situations. The acts were performed by Lakshmi, Nidhi and Ulka and directed by Promila Kumar. Ekjut theater has been doing its Fall annual play on empowerment for last few years. The play is dramatized on true stories and experiences of women across South Asians and globally; it touches topics which are often taboo and rarely talked about. The play on empowerment has been staged not only in Chicago but in Midwest cities of Bloomington, Detroit, Minneapolis and Lansing to full houses.

Another speaker Asha Oroskar talked about Gender Equality. Ms Oroskar said, “Genuine Practices that promote Gender Equality within the nuclear family, within academic institutions, and within professional circles could offer a meaningful approach to bringing women empowerment at an individual, social and economic level. Nurturing the females in step with males through childhood, adolescence, formative years of our careers, and through the demanding times of motherhood, followed with age-and skill related programs in support of our golden and senior years, will offer a comprehensive testament to our continuing promise to human lives.

Geetanjali Maru shared her story and her dream with the audience. “My Dream & Vision Took Shape & Raag ‘N’ Rock Entertainment was born. A Platform Where I Could Provide Opportunities to Others. Unearth Hidden Talent And Bring Them To The Forefront. Promote Concerts Involving Artistic Talent Not Limited By Language, Age Or Gender. Enabling Me to Live My Dream Too. Be Unstoppable. Refuse To Give Up, No Matter What”.

Madhoolica Dear talked about Indo American Heritage Museum which is the only kind of institution for Indian Americans in USA. She said, “Our mission is to promote understanding of heritage, culture, and diversity of Indian Americans. Our mission is to preserve their history and share their contribution to the fabric of American life. We conduct Ethnic Dialog to create understanding, we are building collections of objects which migrants brought from India when they first arrived. We celebrate achievements and contributions of Indian Americans.”

Dr. Satish N. Patel (Binita Patel wife) is a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician whom practices general and aesthetic medicine in Arlington Heights, IL. Dr. Patel strongly believes in helping his client’s age gracefully by having them pursue preventive services. The event inspired the audience members with its though provoking topics and insights brought in by multi-talented actress. On the work front, Shetty-Kundra was last seen on the small screen judging children dance-based reality show “Super Dancer”. The Government of India has roped in Shetty-Kundra as a Swachh Bharat brand ambassador. The 41-year-old actress will feature in television and radio campaigns aimed at discouraging people from littering on roads. Shetty is the latest entrant in the list of the mission’s ambassadors like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shankar Mahadevan and Sachin Tendulkar.

She concluded by saying, “My mission is to promote holistic health for those people who cannot afford a gym or nutritionist and not get enough time to take care of their fitness, especially working women. I would be more than happy to know if I can bring change in even one person`s life on fitness”.
